The Ardglass Development Association have consistently raised monies for Village development projects since 1994 with a record second to none of any village in Lecale including the Marina, Tourist Centre, Computer centre or this new Ardglass website.

This project started in late 2013, when Ardglass Development Association chairperson Gerry O’Shea was working to update and upgrade the old Ardglass website. When Gerry suddenly passed, the committee decided to see the project though in his memory.  and asked an experienced volunteer to join us and manage the completion of the website. Gerry is second from the right at the front in this picture of his last ADA meeting.

We have been working to populate the Website since it was completed in October/November 2014 and have received many suggestions for improvement. Please send your ideas to info@ardglass.eu .

We received help in doing so from many sources, want to thank Down Rural Area Partnership for 70% funding and also thank the National Museum in Dublin and Cultra and The Down County Museum for lending us their collection of historic photographs for Ardglass for this website.

A few words on the Ardglass Development Association; like any village in Lecale, voluntary community work usually falls to a list of the ‘usual suspects’ in delivering benefit for the community. We are lucky in Ardglass to have several community groups each working in different areas like GAA, soccer, residents, the festival committee, history, and many others.

The Ardglass Development Association have consistently raised monies for Village development projects since 1994 with a record second to none of any village in Lecale including the Marina for £1.6 million, the Ardglass Community Centre upgrade, the DSD Environmental Improvement Scheme in 2005 for £2.4 million, Tourist Centre, Computer centre and training, youth projects,  or the current Ardglass website.

The ADA committee are looking for younger people to hand over to, and to pass on their skills. Managing this website, applying for project finance, managing projects (something Gerry was very good at) and running the computer centre or the ‘Gerry O’Shea Everyone’s Community Centre’ to name but a few areas where ADA needs help. ADA also want to run a summer scheme next year training people to be tour guides or to manage our new summer-season tourist and heritage centre. If you feel you can help please email info@ardglass.eu
